Cleaning your Multi-Sensory Room

Keeping your Multi-Sensory, Soft Play or Snoezelen Room clean has never been more important than now.

Sensory Rooms provide us with valuable education, therapeutic, relaxation and stimulation opportunities.   As you welcome pupils back to school after an extended break, getting into the new routine can be unsettling for Neurodiverse children. Even more so, during these uncertain times, a quality sensory room provides a safe space in which to chill out, calm down and reduce stress and anxiety for everyone.  Multi-Sensory Rooms are shared by many individuals - sanitising the room between each session is an important measure to contain the spread of viruses and germs.

Below we have put together a short guide to help you clean and sanitise your Sensory Room.

  • Use a Mask. Every person within the sensory room should use a mask to help prevent spread of viruses and germs.
  • Maintain Social Distancing.  Ensure only one person is using the room at a time.
  • Bubble Tubes.  The water in the bubble tube is not a risk for transmitting the virus. If your bubble tube water is discoloured or dirty we would recommend a water change. Water Treatment Fluid should also be used regularly to prevent a build-up of algae.
  • Wall & Floor Padding.  All wall and floor padding should be cleaned using Anti-Bacterial or Alcohol Wipes.
  • Remotes & Switches. All wall and floor padding should be cleaned using Anti-Bacterial or Alcohol Wipes.
  • Use Hand Sanitiser.  Please ensure anyone using the Sensory Room, uses Hand Sanitiser before entering the room and using the equipment.
  • Ball Pools. Ensure 72 Hours transpire between different individual's use. Clean using Alcohol Wipes or a Surface Disinfectant Spray.
  • Textiles. For items such as weighted blankets, we suggest using a cover or sleeve which can be washed separately.

HOW TO CLEAN YOUR BUBBLE TUBE

Bubble tubes are the centre-piece of any Sensory Room. Ensuring they are clean and looked after properly is essential so that they can carry on being the focal point of your room.

  • Thoroughly rinse out the bubble tube with clean water, taking care to remove all leftover soap residue.
  • Wipe down the outside of the bubble tube with Anti-Bacterial wipes.
