Creative Activity are delighted to have been involved with the design and installation of a new Multi-Sensory Environment at Killard House School in Donaghadee.

Killard House School provides high-quality education for pupils aged 3 to 19 with a range of additional complex learning needs. Senior Teacher for the Primary Department, Claire Kerr undertook some additional training & research to understand what best suited their needs and worked along with the school's Speech Therapist & Occupational Therapist to provide for the wide range of students' needs and together they came to it that they required an on-site hybrid model Multi-Sensory Room.

It is great to hear how successful the Multi-Sensory Room has been since installation, Claire said "The teachers that have had children in there, and our Speech Therapist & Occupational Therapist who have had children in there, have absolutely loved it and have really seen the children respond. The children come in to work on different goals, some of our children are non-verbal, and we're looking to motivate them to initiate verbal communication with their learning partner, if they can, or to promote & develop their non-verbal communication with their learning partner." following on she said "Some of the children coming in here need to just understand that they can get quality interaction with another person, and this space has been fabulous for enabling that to happen, on an approach called intensive interaction"
